What is noise reduction earphones
October,9th,2023
There are two methods for earphone noise reduction, active noise reduction and passive noise reduction.
The active noise reduction function is to generate inverted sound waves equal to external noise through the noise reduction system, neutralize the noise, and achieve the effect of noise reduction. Active noise reduction earphones come with noise reduction circuits that compete with external noise. Most of them use larger headwear designs, which can block external noise using structures such as earplug cotton and earphone casing for the first round of sound insulation. At the same time, active noise reduction circuits and power supplies are installed to have sufficient space.
Passive noise reduction headphones mainly surround the ears to form a closed space, or use soundproofing materials such as silicone earplugs to block external noise. Due to the noise not being processed by the noise reduction circuit chip, it can generally only block high-frequency noise, and the noise reduction effect on low-frequency noise is not significant.
The three commonly used noise reduction measures, namely noise reduction at the sound source, noise reduction during propagation, and noise reduction at the human ear, are all passive. In order to actively eliminate noise, people have invented the technology of "active noise reduction". Its principle is that all sounds heard are sound waves with a certain spectral composition. If a sound wave can be found with a spectrum equal to the amplitude of the noise to be eliminated and a phase exactly opposite (180 ° difference), the noise can be completely eliminated by combining the two. The key lies in how to obtain the noise cancelling sound. The actual method used is to start with the noise itself, monitor the noise with a microphone, and then try to generate a reverse sound wave through an electronic circuit and play it out through the speaker. From this perspective, the technology of active noise reduction is actually "using poison to fight poison".
When dealing with complex noise environments, the two MEMS microphones with "active noise reduction" will respectively pick up intra ear noise and diverse external environmental noise, equipped with independent intelligent high-definition noise reduction processors to perform high-speed calculations on the picked up different noises and accurately eliminate noise. And according to the noise reduction needs of different scenarios, the earphones provide multiple listening modes: strong and weak active noise reduction mode and one ambient sound mode. Isolate external noise to varying degrees and eliminate the "black hole feeling" when listening to common noise reducing earphones.
